Nestled in the Dorset countryside, this rustic home was designed as a warm and characterful retreat, embracing traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary touch. Created in collaboration with Julia Dolina from Ch.Archteam design studio, the project carefully balances heritage details with modern comfort, ensuring the house feels both timeless and lived-in. Every space is infused with a sense of history, reinterpreted through a fresh and refined lens.

The house unfolds through a series of inviting and well-proportioned rooms, including four charming bedrooms and five thoughtfully designed bathrooms. Two elegant reception spaces provide distinct atmospheres—one centred around a grand stone fireplace, the other opening onto the garden, blurring the line between indoors and out. A dedicated study and an intimate library corner offer quiet spaces for work and reflection, enhancing the home’s sense of retreat.

The design is rooted in natural materials, with pale timber running throughout to create a light, airy quality. Exposed beams and hand-carved wooden details add depth and authenticity, while fine joinery and bespoke cabinetry ensure every element is considered. Soft, muted tones complement the raw textures, allowing the warmth of the wood to take centre stage.

Inspired by period homes, the interiors celebrate craftsmanship with an eclectic mix of antique and custom-made pieces. Ornate woodwork, reclaimed elements, and hand-finished details bring richness to the space, while carefully layered textiles and subtle decorative flourishes create an inviting and sophisticated atmosphere. The overall aesthetic is understated yet full of character, a seamless blend of rustic charm and tailored refinement.

As the final elements are installed, from handcrafted furniture to one-of-a-kind decorative features, the house is coming together as a true reflection of its setting and heritage. Designed with longevity in mind, this project is a celebration of tradition reimagined—where history, craftsmanship, and comfort coexist beautifully.
